Wed, Jun 6, 2012 @ 12:06 PM / by Katie Adams

Looking for school-based health center funding? The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), under the Bureau of Primary Care, has recently released the opening of their grant competition for the School-Based Health Center Capital (SBHCC) Program. HRSA has allocated an estimated $75 million for this program and expects to make around 150 SBHCC awards this year. The funding period for the grant program is 2 years, and applicants can request up to $500,000.

Funds can be requested to purchase equipment, including mobile vans to expand health care access and services, alterations and renovations to an existing facility or equipment, and/or construction for new facility or to expand a current facility. Strong proposals will demonstrate how the proposed project will improve health care access for children at a SBHC. Eligible SBHC applicants are:

  • Located in or near a school facility of a school district or board, or of an Indian tribe or tribal organization;
  • Organized through school, community, and health provider relationships;
  • Administered by a sponsoring facility;
  • Provide primary health services to children through health care professionals in accordance with State and local laws, including laws relating to licensure and certification;
  • Able to satisfy any other requirements the state may have for such clinics.

Application deadline is June 26, 2012, with grant awards expected in December 2013.
