It’s our job to know about different funding sources, and every once in a while we come across a foundation with a creative spin on things. The One Percent Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to mobilize younger philanthropist and address global issues. The Foundation has five funding focuses:
- International aid
In addition to its broad funding focuses, the way the Foundation approaches funding is unique. The Foundation is composed of “partners,” who commit to donating 1% of their annual salary to the organization. Partnership is open to all. The funding is then pooled, and partners can nominate and vote on organizations to receive grant funding. The organization with the most votes receives a grant.
A common challenge in fundraising can be convincing donors that their donations, no matter the size, make a difference. By encouraging philanthropists to pool their resources, while also giving them some control over the use of the funds, the One Percent Foundation has found a new way to address that challenge.
As it turns out, however, this structure is not the easiest for grant-seekers. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant proposals, so in order to be considered, nonprofit organizations must be nominated by Foundation partners. This Foundation may or may not be a viable source of funds for your organization. Regardless, TheGrantHelpers.com can help identify other applicable grant resources. For more information, contact a Grant Helper.
