Grant Alert: Race to the Top

Race to the Top is a U.S. Department of Education grant designed to support bold, locally directed improvements in learning and teaching that will directly improve student achievement and educator effectiveness.  Eligible applicants must be a local education agency (LEA) located within the United States (or a consortium of LEAs from within the U.S.) that serves at least 2,000 students, wherin at least 40% of the student population is determined to be from a low-income familiy, based on free and reduce lunch eligibility. The U.S. Department of Education anticipates that it will make 15-25 awards in this round of funding and has earmarked $400 million for the competiton. Anticipated award amounts vary based on the number of students within the applicant LEA. 

Competitive preferences will be given to proposal that emphasize personalized learning environments, 

1)     Personalized Learning Environments

2)     Non-Rural LEAs in Race to the Top States

3)     Rural LEAs in Race to the Top States

4)     Non-Rural LEAs in non-Race to the Top States

5)     Rural LEAs in non-Race to the Top States

 

A competitive preference will be given to applicants that align additional resources and partner with public and private entities for student and family supports:  social-emotional, behavior, etc.

Eligible Applicants:

 

A Local Education Agency(LEA) or a consortium of LEAs from the 50 States, the District of Columbia, and the commonwealth of Puerto Rico.  At least 40 percent of students must be from low-income families based on eligibility for free or reduced-price lunch subsidies.  Must serve a minimum of 2,000 students.
