As we approach the new year, we often think of all the resolutions that are so often made, many of them related to health and wellness, topics we often receive grant inquiries about. So in honor of the upcoming new year, we are dedicating this blog to health and wellness grant opportunities. Many health-related organizations, both big and small, give large sums of money for health- and wellness-related programs, so remember that these opportunities represent a select few of all of those available. If you would like a more comprehensive or detailed list of opportunities, call or email for more information on how we can help you.
Build-A-Bear offers several grant programs that support special causes, one of which is children’s health and wellness. Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) public charities or registered Canadian charities, with priority given to organizations located near Build-A-Bear Workshop stores. Grant support focuses on childhood disease research foundations, child safety organizations, and organizations that serve children with special needs.
Two types of grants are given in this program:
Individual Project Grants – awarded for one-time purchases or to fulfill a short-term need (e.g.: purchase of materials, equipment, etc.)
Organization Program Grants – fund start-up or operational costs for ongoing programs (e.g.: funds for research, health and wellness educational programs, financial assistance for families in need, etc.)
Grant amounts range from $1,000 to $5,000, and recipients are required to sign an agreement stating they will provide a follow-up report within six months of receiving the grant to illustrate how it was used and its impact.
Deadline: Not yet announced. Accepting grant requests beginning in February 2013.
The Rite Aid Foundation is a not-for-profit foundation that focuses on helping those in Rite Aid communities lead healthier lives. Non-profit organizations classified as 501 (c)(3) are eligible to apply for funding, and no organization can receive a grant more than two years in a row.
The award amount for grants is not specified, but for a full list of requirements and guidelines for submitting grant requests, see The Rite Aid Foundation’s website.
Deadline: Proposals accepted throughout the year, to be reviewed as soon as possible after January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1
The Lee Foundation Health and Wellness Grants are for non-profit organizations located in west central Pennsylvania only. The foundation’s goal is to improve the health and well-being of as many residents as possible.

The program also prioritizes funding projects that address violence, substance abuse, and other community problems that interfere with good health.
Grants range from $5,000 to $50,000. For a full list of application guidelines and requirements, and for a full list of funding priorities, visit the Lee Foundation Health and Wellness Grants website.
