Immediately after a disaster, governmental agencies, volunteers and non-profits respond en masse to the affected area. These entities provide essential health and human services. In turn, granting organizations support these first responders by offering grants for general expenses and specific special interests.

There are approximately 4,000-6,000 animal shelters in the United States providing temporary care for 8-10 million dogs and cats. Sadly, 4-6 million of these animals are euthanized annually, due to a lack of available homes or people willing to adopt them. Animal shelters and non-profit organizations that support animal rights need funding for programs, education, and even building projects.
